Kyle Mahan has won the inaugural Texas Golf Hall of Fame / Joe Black Cup scholarship. Kyle will soon graduate from Claudia Taylor Lady Bird Johnson High School in San Antonio and head to Western New Mexico in the fall as a member of its Men's Golf Team. He plans to pursue a degree in biology or in forensics.
This annual scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior from the PGA Section of the previous year’s Joe Black Cup winning team. In 2021, the Southern Texas team defeated Northern Texas during the 41st playing of the event at Boot Ranch Golf Club in Fredericksburg.
Recipients of the scholarship will get to know Mr. Black on a personal level and the Texas Golf Hall of Fame will ensure each winner understands the significant role Mr. Black has played in golf throughout his career.

The Texas Golf Hall of Fame has recently launched its Five-Year Strategic Plan that maps out its future goals and initiatives. Numerous initiatives will come to fruition under four main tenets: Members, Education, Partnerships, and Giving.
Among the highest of priorities is to create a one-of-a-kind, world-class digital archive and repository to celebrate and capture our members and Texas golf history as a whole.
In addition, there will be strong emphasis placed on content creation for enhanced social media platform presence. We invite you to be part of our social media community by following the Texas Golf Hall of Fame on Facebook (Texas Golf Hall of Fame) and Instagram (Texas.golf.hof). We are pleased to announce our first ever Texas Golf Hall of Fame scholarship. The Northern Texas PGA and Southern Texas PGA have graciously agreed to enhance our partnership by funding an annual scholarship to be named after Mr. Joe Black, in recognition of all he has done in our state for golf, and for his efforts to bring the Hall of Fame to where it is today. The winning team from the annual Joe Black Cup will also secure this scholarship for its Foundation, to be awarded each spring as part of the winning section’s scholarship offerings. We will make sure the recipients know about Mr. Black’s legacy in our sport, as well as the importance of the Texas Golf Hall of Fame.
The 41st Annual Joe Black Cup Matches were held at Boot Ranch on November 15 and 16, with the STPGA winning the cup 12 ½ - 11 ½.
