Texas Golf Hall of Fame

Sandra Haynie

LPGA Hall of Famer Sandra Haynie played her way into the record books by winning four major championships in a career, which spanned 30 years.

A native of Fort Worth, Haynie was an early protégée of A.G. Mitchell of River Crest Country Club. As a teenager, she won the 1957 and 1958 Texas State Public Links tournaments, plus the 1958 and 1959 Women’s Texas Golf Association titles. She also captured the 1960 Trans-Miss.

As a professional Miss Haynie has actually had two careers- one from 1961-1976 and, following a layoff due to injuries and arthritis, from 1980 to 1989.

She would win a total of 42 events on the LPGA Tour, including four major championships:

  • 1965 LPGA Championship

  • 1974 LPGA Championship

  • 1974 U.S. Women's Open

  • 1982 Peter Jackson Classic - from 1979 through 2000, the event (also named the Classique du Maurier Classic (1984-1987) and the du Maurier Ltd Classic 1988-2000)) was one of the LPGA Tour's four major championships

Haynie finished in the top ten on the money list every year from 1963 and 1975. The last time for this distinction was her 14th and final time in 1982 when she placed second in earnings that year as well as four other years. She was awarded LPGA Player of the Year honors in 1970. She was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1977. Her last full season on the tour was 1989.

Sandra Haynie has served the LPGA as an officer and a playing member of the Board of Directors.
